Obituary

Barbara Jean Hendricks Davis. Born February 22, 1953 - November 1st 2021.

She was born to Carl and Pauline Hendricks of Bethalto. She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband and love of her life Gary Dale Davis; one brother Carl Hendricks Junior; two sisters Joann Hendricks and Patty Hendricks Panzier.

She is survived by one brother William Hendricks of Edwardsville; two sons, Carl Curtis Davis (wife Heather) - grandchildren Sarah, Jacob and Ryan Davis of Bethalto; Gary Lee Davis (wife Lori) of Colorado - grandchildren Abigail, William, Jonathan, Jenna, Joseph; 3 step children, Judy Bright of Virginia, IL, Gary Dale Davis II (wife Denise) of Pittsfield IL, and Richard Lee Davis (wife Melana) of Quincy IL; A total of 20 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Barb worked at the Olin / Winchester ammunition factory in East Alton, Famous Barr upon the opening of Famous Barr, was a Pharmacy tech at Alton KMart, and then Clark Refinery Hartford Illinois (operator). She graduated from Bethalto high school and married Gary Davis 1971. She loved to laugh, drive fast at times in her husbands car, and she cherished family. She had a corvette with her favorite plate (yes) BARBIE! She enjoyed simple things. Barb took on 3 small children in December 1971 and loved them like her own. That time was quickly cut short by Gary's untimely death in December of 1972. She was widowed young with one son and one on the way. She never became bitter. She never forgot her stepchildren and never forgot to keep the spirit of life alive. She smiled a lot and liked practical jokes, but she never gave up on life and never shied away from calling a spade a spade. That wasn't to be hurtful, but she always told it like it was, even if you didn't want to hear it. She kept faithful friends from kindergarten through high school and remembered that those closest to you are what's important, not what you gain materially in life. She was content even when the cards seemed to never offer a break. She will be greatly missed and loved by those who were blessed to be able to share her kind heart and huge love. She will be greatly missed.

Memorial visitation will be Thursday, November 18 at Paynic Home for Funerals from 12 p.m. until services begin at 1 p.m.
