Some people spend their lives trying to fit into the world.   Derek never did.
He lived on his own terms—fierce, loud, and unapologetically himself. He never fit neatly into anyone else's expectations, and he never pretended to be someone he wasn't. Whether you loved him, argued with him, or simply crossed his path, you remembered him.
He loved with intensity, argued with conviction, laughed loudly, and carried more weight than most people ever knew. His life was marked by hard choices, difficult consequences, and battles that followed him long after they should have let go.
He loved his music loud, his family fiercely, and his friends with unwavering loyalty.

He leaves behind his son, Derek A. "DJ" Scroggins Jr.; his granddaughter, Ollyve B. Scroggins; his best friend, Rachael Capriglione (Toner), the mother of his son and one of the constants throughout his life; his father and stepfather, Frank Scroggins and Mark R. Schlottner; his sisters, Rachel Scroggins and Nicole Schlottner; his brother, Mark A. Schlottner; and Vicky Greer, a deeply meaningful person in his life. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shelley Schlottner.

He lived loudly, loved deeply, and left an impression that will not easily fade.
