Rosewood Heights—Donald D. "Dave" Fischer, 82, passed away at 11:38 a.m. Thursday, January 19, 2023 at River Crossing of Alton.

Born March 24, 1940 in Alton, he was a son of Joseph and Christina (Gamble) Fischer.

He married Madeline A. "Til" Fischer Dec. 7, 1963 in Alton.  She passed away Dec. 10, 2007.

The 1957 graduate of Alton High School served his country in the U.S. Navy.  After four years of service, he worked for McDonnell-Douglas for over 40 years until his retirement in November, 1996, at which time he became a full-time "babysitter" for his grandkids. A lifelong music lover, he played drums in the high school and Navy bands.  He later became an avid golfer.

Survivors include his daughter, Stacy Fischer and her husband Richard Asperger of St. Augustine, FL; a grandson, Nicholas Fischer; great grandchildren Rylan and Rowan Fischer; a brother, Bryce Ash of Effingham, IL; a stepsister, Chris Whitaker; and several in-laws, nieces, nephews and other extended family.

In addition to his wife of 44 years, he was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Joseph and Myrtle Fischer; his mother and stepfather, Christina and Robert Whitaker; a grandson, Colin Fischer; his sister, Vicky Fischer; and his brother, James Norvell.

The family will hold a memorial at a later date.
