Obituary

Edward (Sonny) L. Harvey, Jr. of Alton, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022, at the age of 74.

Ed was born on July 27, 1948, to Edward and Doris (Skinner) Harvey Sr. in Alton, IL, who preceded him in death. After graduating from Roxana High School in 1966, he went on to study at the University of Missouri where he played basketball and earned the nickname Tree for his 6'6" height and interest in forestry studies. He honorably served his country in Vietnam. He retired from the Agency for Community Transit where he made many dear friends. Ed was a helper by nature and could fix anything broken. He was quick to extend his helping hands, too, never letting a loved one go in need. His mechanical and engineering talents were truly amazing. Taking care of his wife, feeding the birds, caring for his dogs, and spending time tooling around the house brought him joy. He was a regular at his grandson's ballgames and will truly be missed in the stands. He loved nature and protected living things to the point he wouldn't even squash a bug. His life was his family and he was a wonderful son, brother, spouse, father, uncle, and papi.

Ed is survived by his wife Cathy G. Harvey of Alton; his three sons Chad (Stacey) Harvey and children Sean, Elise, and Finn; Mark (Christina) Harvey and children Kaya and Ezra; and Patrick (Allison) Harvey and their children Alexander and Mason. He is also survived by his brother, John Harvey and sister Barb (Tommy) Paulovich; stepchildren Michelle (Chris) Rudolph and son Alex; Stefani Donaldson and sons Bryan and Andrew Jubelt; Jason (Diane) Crider and daughters Raygan and Kennedy. Finally, he is survived by his nephew Cliff (Stephanie) Paulovich and daughter Laney and nephew Robbie Paulovich, in addition to, his sister-in-law Tammy (Chris) Chapman and children and many cousins.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to your favorite animal rescue or veterans' organization in his name would honor Ed.
