Alton—James W. Swain, Jr., 63, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Bria of Wood River.

He was born May 30, 1961 in Biloxi, MS.  James was an executive chef at restaurants all over the world.  He loved cooking, listening to music, and people in general.

Survivors include his children, Michelle Oerter of East Alton, Shawndra Brooks of Roxana, Sarah Salzman-Kopp of Tennessee, and Sage Swain of Roxana; seven grandchildren, Riley, Addi, Autumn, Kiya, Ella, Graysom, and Aria; two nieces, Tasha Turner and Casey Wade; and a nephew, Cory Locke.

He was preceded in death by a sister and brother, Dorrie Locke and Charles "Chuck" Locke.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday, July 16 at Mac's Downtown, 315 Belle St. in Alton.
