Bethalto—Scott Edward Smay, 59, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Born Feb. 22, 1964 in Goldsboro, NC, he was the son of Leo H. Smay and Sarah Jane (Chestnut) Roose.

Scott worked as a machinist for District 9 of the International Assoc. of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union in St. Louis.  In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and playing music with his guitar.

Surviving are his children, Gregory Smay of Wood River and Amanda (Jaycie) Lyles of Houston, TX; two sisters, Leigh Anna (James) Yoder of Jacksonville, IL and Dawn Marie (Barry) Morse of St. Augustine, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

According to Scott's wishes, there will be an intimate, private service in his memory.
